Beautiful Deceit (Watch Me Burn #3)(53)
Author: R.E. Bond

I hated how my voice cracked and more tears fell on their own accord.

“Why would you though?”

“C’mon, I’m still hoping you turn around and ask me to fuck you. I’m just killing time right now because you’re basically naked and I get a good perv without you knowing,” he winked playfully, my lips lifting into a small smile.

I could feel my limbs again, so I lifted a hand to wave him off.

“Thanks for bringing me home, but I’m okay now. I’m sorry for shooting you, but I will do it again if I have to, you know that right?”

He chuckled, moving towards me to kiss my forehead sweetly, and I absently leaned into his familiar touch as his lips lingered on my skin.

God, I missed him already and he hadn’t even left yet.

“I know, babe. Stay safe, okay? You have my number if you need me,” then he turned and left me alone, causing tears to fall as loneliness crept into my heart again.

Rory was full of shit.

I knew Razor was blackmailing her or something, because she’d been a fucking mess when I’d found her.

She’d opened up enough for me to understand that she was just petrified, so I played it cool and didn’t get upset about it all.

Something was going on, and it must have been bad from the way I’d watched her break at Slash’s grave.

I’d sat in my pickup in front of her house for nearly an hour before I actually left, just needing to stick around a little longer.

She’d leaned into my touch like she was desperate for it, and it was at that moment that I clung to the knowledge that she wasn’t okay.

She admitted that she didn’t want to shoot me at least, so there was that.

Skeeter was seriously wrong about her, but I couldn’t tell him I’d visited her, let alone helped her.

With his state of mind, he’d probably gun me down for disobeying him.

This was going to end bloody, I just knew it.

Hunter hadn’t written her off yet, but he was close for sure.

I had to convince them that she wouldn’t turn her back on us unless she really had to, I just had no idea how.

“Little birdy told me you had company last night.”

What the fuck?

I jolted up right in bed, almost smacking heads with Razor who looked amused for waking me up so rudely and scaring the hell out of me.

I scowled, waiting for my heart rate to slow down as I tried to wake up properly.

“Little birdy needs to fuck off.”

“You know, I told you to cut them off, right? I meant permanently. Your guest had a Psychos jacket on, so who was it?” He snapped from where he sat on the edge of the bed, making me give up on all plans of going back to sleep.

How I didn’t have pneumonia after last night, I’d never know.

“It wasn’t intentional. They found me having a meltdown last night, brought me home, then left when I told them to. I didn’t tell them shit, and they won’t be a problem because I haven’t fucked them. How the fuck did you get in, anyways?”

He grinned smugly as he got comfortable.

“Loungeroom window. How do I know you didn’t confide in them about our little deal?”

That made me snort.

I was glad he was having similar trust issues to me.

“Because they’d still be here, with both crews as back up, and you’d be getting fucking shot at instead of sitting on the edge of my bed having this delightful conversation. I’m not stupid, Razor. So back off,” I warned, pulling my arms out of the covers to scrub my face with my hands.

“Why were you having a meltdown? Gotta hold it together, girl,” he stated like it wasn’t all his fucking fault.

I just wanted to stab the bastard and paint the bedroom walls with his blood, whistling a happy tune as I did it.

“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe for the fact that you killed my best friend, or the part where I had to cut off everyone I care about in order to keep them safe. Possibly for the fact that I shot one of my other best friends the other week to scare them off so you didn’t kill them. Take your fucking pick, dick head,” I snapped, giving him a lethal look that I wished could set him on fire.

It would be worth burning the house down if he went up in flames with it.

He rolled his eyes and stood up as if my dramatics were contagious.

“Just don’t let it happen again, or your other buddies will be in the ground with Slash. Get dressed, we’re going.”

Rage burned below the surface, but I frowned, bunching the covers tightly around me as if it would protect me from him.

“Why? Where are we going?”

“Fight night starts early in the day for us, and we make a full day of it. You’re competing, so get the fuck up,” he grinned, a nasty glint in his eye that I didn’t like one single bit.

I went to give him my honest opinion about his request, but he yanked the covers off me and hauled me out of bed by my arm, ignoring my protesting.

I growled as I found some clothes to wear, wanting to cover myself as quickly as possible.

Piece of shit.

“Go and make me a fucking coffee then, if you want me to play nice,” I gritted out, causing him to chuckle and salute me like the jackass he was, leaving me alone to change.

He seemed surprised to see me ready so quickly when I dragged myself into the kitchen a few minutes later.

“You’re ready?”

I put my arms out wide, my face full of agitation.

“Do I not look fucking ready?”

It was his turn to look irritated with me, his voice rough.

“Not going to make yourself all pretty for me? You should put in some fucking effort. My girl needs to look hot.”

I scowled as I snatched my coffee from him, hiding the fact that I was surprised that he even bothered to make it.

“This is as good as I get. You should have known I wasn’t some fancy bitch. Who am I fighting? Anyone I know?”

I’ll kill them, regardless.

“Doubt you’d know them,” he grinned, uneasiness washing through me.

He had something up his sleeve, I just knew it.

We headed out to his car, driving until we hit a dirt road that seemed to go for miles until pulling up at an abandoned shed that had cars parked everywhere.

I followed him inside, noticing only a few women around, who all seemed bothered by my presence.

It wasn’t like I wanted to be there, so I had no idea why they looked pissed at me.

“Razor, who am I fighting? The girls don’t seem too keen on me being here,” I mumbled, making him chuckle, but he didn’t answer.

We reached a badly constructed cage, where he ushered me inside before finally speaking.

“The girls are pissed because their guys are about to join you. We don’t have rules here, babe, so you’d better warm up, or you might get hurt. I’d hate for that to happen,” he stated, a sadistic grin stretching across his face.

Fear rolled through me as my fingers threaded through the cage bars as he shut me inside alone.

“What the fuck’s going on?”

“Like I said, it’s fight night. You wanted to play with the big boys, so now you get to. The day you knock my guys down, will be the day I accept you as one of them. Show us what you’ve got, babe,” he said bluntly before one of the guys climbed the cage, his feet slamming into the ground behind me as he jumped down.
