Drew (Cerberus MC #15)(23)
Author: Marie James

“I did not.” I knew he could tell. Damn it.

“Did too.” He brushes a strand of hair from my cheek, tucking it behind my ear. “And I’m not interested, but I haven’t seen grown people act like that.”

“We’re grown.”

“I haven’t seen people act like that since college.”

“College people are grown,” I argue.

“Fine.” He pulls in a ragged breath. “I’ve never seen two guys just openly make out the way they were.”

“It’s hot,” I tell him with a shrug.

“So I discovered.”

“Considering batting for the other team? You know—” Feeling like Sophia, I snap my mouth closed. I was seconds away from making a joke about hooking up with guys in prison, but that’s just wrong. I feel disgusted for the thought even popping into my head.

“What?” he asks, not letting me off the hook.

“They’re used to being watched because they go to a sex club in Denver.”

“Hale-ish?”

I nearly choke. There are so many things about this man I don’t know.

“No, Izzy.” He spins me around, his eyes burning into mine. “I’ve never been. Some of the guys at work used to talk about it. They didn’t go to the clubs in Albuquerque because they didn’t want to run into people they know or had arrested before. I’ve never been to a sex club.”

“Okay.” I’ve been saying that word a lot lately.

“Are you ready to go inside for mac and cheese and chicken nuggets?” There’s humor in his voice as his eyes dart to the front door of my house.

“No.” How can he even think about going in there with how keyed up I am right now. “They may not be finished.”

“Probably not.” He groans, his face close to mine, and I realize his hands are still on my hips from when he spun me around. “This is familiar.”

Then I’m lifted, my butt landing on cold metal, and I’m right back where I was the night we met, sitting on the hood of my car with him leaning in close to me.

“Jesus,” he pants before pulling away and slamming his back against the car beside me.

“Yeah,” I agree.

His hands scrub down his face. “That night was the best sexual experience I’ve ever had.”

His confession feels like a bomb set to detonate between the two of us.

“Is it crazy if I say me too?”

He turns his head to look at me, blue eyes sparkling in the moon light. “Crazy because you were a virgin?”

“I was.”

“I know. I just don’t know why you never asked me to stop.”

I can’t look at him when I respond. “I didn’t want to stop. It happened just the way I wanted it to.”

“On the hood of this car?” There’s humor in his tone as he taps the hood with his hand. “That’s how you wanted it to happen.”

“No. I wanted passion and desire. I wanted an erotic experience because I’ve always thought that those first times we all see in movies where the guy’s always checking in and going slow were boring. I never wanted that.”

“You didn’t get it either.”

“Come for me.” God, the memory of those words from his lips make cold chills race down my arms.

“I wouldn’t change a thing.”

“Not even the missing condom?”

“Nope. Not a thing.”

“I just forgot. I’d never done that before, but I was so wrapped up in you, that I didn’t even think about it. Getting inside of you was the only thing on my mind.”

“Okay.” The word comes out breathy, much the same way my words did that night.

I ache for him. My skin is on fire without his touch. “Drew.”

“Izzy.” He drops his head between his shoulders, refusing to look up at me. His hands dig into the front pockets of his jeans.

“Is there a reason we’ve only had that one night? Do you not want me?”

He snorts, his left hand pulling from his pocket to grip an obvious erection over the fabric.

“Don’t be ridiculous.”

“Ridiculous is both of us wanting it and yet neither of us are doing anything to get us there.”

“I want you.” His eyes look up to find mine. “But you deserve better than me.”

“We’re having a baby.”

“And that doesn’t give me any rights to your body. You don’t owe me that because I forgot to wear a condom the one night we were together.”

“It’s just sex.”

It wouldn’t be just sex to me, and I think he knows it.

“Sex complicates everything. You were a virgin that night. I got you pregnant. Things are already complicated. I can’t handle much more.”

I blow a puff of air out. Knowing what I’m about to say is going to make me sound like a petulant brat, I plan to say it anyway. “But I’m horny.”

He chuckles, a sad excuse for a laugh.

“If you won’t—”

He spins, shoving between my legs until I feel his thickness against my center.

“If you even open that pretty mouth to tell me that if I won’t you’ll find someone who can, I’m going to lose my shit, Isabella.”

I glare down at him. “I wouldn’t do that.”

“What were you going to say then, hmm?”

Challenge fills his eyes, but they soften when I shift my hips a little against him.

“I’m going to have to skip dinner and take care of it myself.”

His eyes fall to my lips as he groans.

“Somehow that’s worse.” His hands rub up my thighs, his thumbs circle my belly on either side.

“I don’t know what kind of relationships you’ve been in before, Drew O’Neil, but I’m not the type of woman who will use others to make someone jealous.”

“Apollo seems to be doing that easily enough on his own.”

“And I’ve told you I’m only friends with Apollo. Yes, he thinks he wants more from me, but the man wants a happy ending and I don’t think he cares how he gets there.”

“A happy ending like…” He pulls his hand from my stomach making a crude motion.

“No!” I slap his chest as he laughs, the seriousness of the situation floating away on the cold night air. “He wants to be in love. Wants someone to take care of. Wants someone to come home to. It’s not me he wants but the potential my situation has to offer him. He’ll get over it soon enough.”

“He knows you’re amazing. He’s not a stupid man. I don’t think he’s going to go away as easily as you’re hoping.”

“That’s on him. I can’t control how the man feels.” I swivel my hips one more time. “Can we get back on topic, please?”

“I was hoping you forgot about that,” he grumbles.

“Really?” I move again, his erection hitting a part of me that makes me groan. “Doesn’t look like you forgot about it.”

“Do you know how easy it would be to give into that urge?” He traces my neck with the tip of his nose. “How easily these leggings would tear and how fast I could be inside of you?”
