Chapter 10

June 23rd

9:27 P.M.

“We should go to bed,” Spider said as he kissed the top of Abigail’s head. She was curled up on his lap, and she tilted her head back to look up at him, it was the first night she’d managed not to fall asleep early, but they’d had a long day and she needed rest.

“I thought for sure that I would have been asleep hours ago after all that fresh air and walking, but it’s nearly half-past nine and I’m still awake. I know it’s silly, but I feel so much more like a normal person going to bed at a normal hour,” Abigail told him.

“You are a normal person, Abby, it will just take a little while for your life to go back to normal.”

“Today helped a lot, the last few days have,” she amended. “But today’s picnic and walking along the beach, the waves and the sand, the more time I spend at the beach the better I seem to feel.”

“Then we can go there every day,” he told her. He loved the beach as well so it certainly wasn’t any hardship to take Abigail there every day, but he knew at some point she would have to confront her emotions over what she’d been through instead of just avoiding them.

“At least until you get called out,” she said, and he saw the anxiety in her eyes. She was dreading that. If he was honest he was too. Spider had always loved his job, loved the adrenalin rush, loved saving lives and capturing terrorists, but now for the first time the idea of leaving filled him with dread. Abigail wasn’t ready to be alone yet, but if his team was called up, he would have to go whether he liked it or not.

“Let’s not worry about that just now,” he said.

“Besides, if you get called away you won’t have to watch any more Disney movies with me, see there’s a bright side to everything,” she said with a laugh.

“Hey, true love is watching Disney movies with your girl if that’s what she wants to do,” he told her, his smile mirroring hers.

“You mean that don’t you?” Her face grew serious, contemplative.

“Honey, I would watch Disney movies with you every day for the rest of our lives if it made you happy. All I care about is being with you.” Spider meant it too. Disney definitely wasn’t his thing, but it was important to Abigail, and that made it important to him too.

Abigail moved on his lap so she was straddling him. “I’m ready.”

“Ready?”

“For you, for this,” she said as she began to undo his jeans.

“Abs,” he warned. He wasn’t sure she was ready to take the next step in their fledgling relationship, but if she kept that up it would be hard to say no and do the right thing.

“I want this, Ryder, I’m ready, I knew it yesterday in the dance studio, but I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t just getting caught up in the moment. All day today when I held your hand as we walked through the waves all I could think about was your hands on my body. I don’t want to wait any longer, I love you, you love me, we’ve lost so much time already. Why should we waste more?” Her mouth caught his and she kissed him with enough confidence and passion that he was convinced that she knew what she wanted.

Breaking the kiss, Spider stood, holding Abigail in his arms, and carried her to the bedroom. “If we’re doing this then we’re doing it right, not hard and fast in a chair.”

“I’m not averse to hard and fast right about now,” Abigail said as she wrapped her legs around his waist.

“I am. Do you know how long I’ve waited to touch your body, to taste you, to bury myself so deep inside you that it feels like we’ve become one person?”

Abigail shivered and kissed him again. “Okay, I guess hard and fast can wait.”

“Sweetheart, we’ll be doing slow and sweet, and hard and fast, and everything in between.”

In her bedroom, Spider set Abigail on her feet and took a moment to look at her. Her bronze hair hung loosely around her shoulders. After a couple of days outdoors her pale skin had a little color to it, and although she wasn’t eating a lot she was starting to put back on some of the weight she’d lost while she’d been held captive. Her eyes watched him, and the heat and desire in them brought him to his knees. Literally.

Spider knelt before her and opened her jeans, sliding them slowly down her legs, letting his fingers trace along her skin as he did so. She wasn’t wearing any shoes so he lifted each foot and removed her jeans.

His hands caressed each inch of her legs as they made their way to her backside where they curled around her cheeks and pulled her forward so he could press his nose to her and breath in her scent.

Abigail shivered, her hands curling into his hair, and while he longed to give her what she wanted he hadn’t finished his exploration of her body yet.

Taking hold of the hem of her t-shirt, he pushed it up, and she slipped both arms out and then pulled it over her head and tossed it on the floor. His lips kissed their way up her stomach between her breasts before taking one of her nipples into his mouth. Abigail moaned, her hands on his shoulders using them for leverage as her knees weakened.

He grinned up at her. “I forgot how much you like that.”

“Your tongue could be put to much better uses than talking,” she murmured.

Spider just laughed and touched the tip of his tongue to her other nipple then blew on it making her shiver again.

Hooking his thumbs into the waistband of her panties, he eased them down her legs. As soon as he had them off he nudged her legs apart then pressed his lips to her center in the gentlest of kisses.

Standing up, Spider guided Abigail backward to the bed, then spread her out on it and drank in her body with his eyes as he stripped off his own clothes.

When he stretched out over her, Abigail began her own exploration of his body as she traced every inch of his abs and his chest while they kissed. Balancing his weight with one hand, his other moved between her legs plunging inside her to stroke her deep, stretching her to prepare her for him.

“Now, Ryder,” she begged against his lips.

“Okay, baby.” Ripping open the condom he’d pulled out of his jeans pocket, he slid it over his length then positioned himself at her entrance. A sliver of doubt crept through him. She claimed no one had touched her while she’d been gone, but she obviously didn’t remember some of that time, and she had refused to see a doctor. Was she really ready for this?

Then he met her gaze.

Love.

That was all he saw looking back at him.

Yes, there was passion and desire, but what stood out was the love.

Because she loved him, she trusted him, and from her heavy breathing and impatient lifting of her hips she wanted this every bit as much as he did.

She gasped as he started to enter her and he moved slowly, reclaiming her lips as he eased his way inside her hot, tight body.

“That’s perfect, I feel whole,” Abigail whispered as her hands curled around his bottom pulling him deeper.

“Me too, sweetheart,” he said.

As he started to move he reached between them touching her where their bodies joined because he wanted them to come at the same time and he knew that Abigail needed both external and internal stimulation to orgasm during sex.
