On silent feet each of my brothers and I move to surround the house. Stoney, Blaze, and I move for the front door, me taking the lead as some of my brothers take the sides and the rest take the back.
“On three. One. Two.” Screw three, I kick at the door right above the doorknob and damn thing swings open with such a force it slams against the wall with a thud. “Spread out,” I say, as my other brothers join in on the search. Moving through each room, I find the door to the basement and open it to hear the screams of pain and moans.
Fuck.
Rushing down the stairs, I quickly scan the room taking in the sickening sight.
Luna, tied to a chair, head slumped to the side, blood seeping from somewhere on her head. Mareena and Charlotte on the bed with Harley strapped down. The two sick bitches were biting at Harley’s naked body. Neither of them realizing they were about to be interrupted.
“Get Luna out of here,” I tell my Prez. On a normal instance, I wouldn’t have told him shit but rather asked; however, he’s been in my shoes and this has to be on me to seek justice. That justice is happening right here, right now.
“I’ll send Neo or Cane down here for Harley,” he says as he moves toward my woman.
Nodding, I stalk across the room and rip, first Charlotte up off Harley by her hair and throw her across the floor causing her to yelp. I then reach out and snatch Mareena up by her throat.
“You’re one sick bitch,” I sneer to which she smirks at me.
“Why thank you, I do love to take part in the twisted things in life. You know too many people prefer to be vanilla,” she rasps. “By chance did you get a look at the gift I put on Luna?”
“Shit,” Stoney mutters drawing my attention to where he was trying to get my woman. Only he hasn’t moved her. “Shadow, Luna’s got a bomb strapped to her throat.”
“Fuck,” I snarl and throw Mareena to the ground next to Charlotte. Stalking over to Luna, I examine the damn explosive. “Stupid bitch,” I mutter, as I shake my head at the damn thing it’s fucked up how it’s set and means I don’t have shit for nothing. Pulling my gun out of the back of my jeans, I turn and aim at Mareena’s head. I squeeze the trigger and put an end to her miserable life as well as Charlotte’s. For what they both did neither died the way they needed to, but it was at my hands. Replacing my gun in the back of my jeans, I lift a gaze to Stoney’s. “She’s got it on a timer set for thirty seconds, if it’s moved from Luna’s neck. Someone needs to get Harley out of here right fuckin’ now so I can get this shit off her and get us the fuck out of here.”
“Done,” Stoney mutters and goes to move but I shake my head.
“Gonna need an extra pair of hands,” I state.
Stoney nods as several of our brothers rush down the stairs. They’d stayed up there to make sure no one else was here along with keeping an eye out for anyone. Neo was the first to get down the stairs.
“Take Harley and get out of the house, everyone else do the same, we don’t have time to fuck around,” Stoney commands.
With a last glance around the room my brothers all do as they’d been ordered.
“Alright, Prez, when I count to five, I want you to snatch Luna out of the chair and run. I’m going to be right behind you all,” I state, starting to work on getting the fuckin’ thing from around her neck.
Counting, I rush through the numbers and Stoney does as I said. With Luna in his arms and running for the stairs, I place the bomb on the chair, so I don’t jar it and cause it to prematurely detonate. I run catching up to them, as my Prez reaches the top of the stairs. He quickly transfers my woman to me as we dart out of the house barely making it through the front door when the explosion happens.
Rocking us forward, I nearly dropped Luna as I started to fall.
Fuck me.
Glancing down at my beautiful woman, I see her staring up at me with confusion.
“Shadow?” she asks.
“Yeah, Kitten, it’s me. I’ve got you, you’re safe, baby,” I murmur leaning into her to kiss her forehead.
“Harley?” she asks.
“We’ll check on her in a bit, you and her both need to be checked out,” I state.
Nodding she leans into me. “Is it over?”
“Yeah, Luna, it’s over.”
“Good, now I can live in the light with only one shadow. I did as you asked. I didn’t slip,” she murmurs, pressing her head against my chest.
“Good girl,” I rasp, knowing that was a huge deal for her. “Now, let’s get you and our baby, checked out.”
“Sounds good to me. Then we can go home,” she declares.
“Yeah, we can go home and finally not worry about anyone coming after you.”
“Love you.”
“Love you, too, Kitten,” I whisper, meaning every word of it. Thankful we’d been able to get her out of there without her being hurt further or being killed in the process.
Guess there is someone looking out for me and protecting my woman until I could get to her.
Epilogue
Luna
“Oh God, it hurts,” I whimper, sweat beading my head. “Why did I not want the drugs?”
“Kitten, you’ll be okay, just breathe,” Shadow chuckles.
“You just breathe,” I snap, narrowing my eyes on him as another contraction hits.
“I’d take the pain away if I could, but I’m not able to. Now calm down and just breathe through it, Luna. You’re the one who said you didn’t want to get some needle in your spine when you’d done your research into this whole thing. Made me swear no matter what I’d make sure you went natural. I’m keeping to that. Even if I want to tell them to give you the epidural.”
“Ugh.” Why does he have to be right? I did make him promise me this when I’d watched a video on how an epidural was performed.
When another contraction hits, I have a sudden urge to push. “He’s coming, oh God, he’s coming, now,” I pant.
“Let me get the nurse for you,” Shadow states calmly.
“No need I’m right here,” Harlow murmurs as she enters the room. I’d met her shortly after it was revealed Victoria and I were cousins. She’s a nurse here at the hospital, rotating from the NICU and maternity ward.
“Good, I need to push, and I need to do it now,” I declare, my teeth clenching together in order to keep from screaming out in pain.
“Okay, Luna, let’s get you prepped,” Harlow says, moving to the sink to wash her hands. “Shadow, hit the call button on the side of the bed.”
“Done,” he mutters.
“Good,” she retorts.
“Nurses’ station.” The muffled voice comes through the speaker.
“Need Doctor Alverez in here,” Harlow states as she puts on a pair of gloves.
“Okay, I’ll tell him,” the voice in the speaker responds before clicking off.
“Oh God,” I gasp as another contraction hits me. My grip on Shadow’s hand tightens as I try to breathe through the pain.
As the contraction eases there’s a knock on the door before it opens to Doctor Alverez. “Who’s ready to have a baby?” he grins. If it wasn’t for the fact he was gay, I highly doubt Shadow would have allowed him to be my doctor. But considering he’s a good friend of Victoria’s and she trusts him, I wanted to go with him.
