Possessed by Passion(452)
Author: Bella Emy

“You were pretty damn cold though; it’s not like there were stars in your eyes that night at the hotel. You had every intention of hurting me, and you threatened me with Lilith.”

“It was a warning – a way to help you without actually helping you. When she visited me in my dream that night, I told her that you had already known she was coming for you and so I was keeping her safe.”

“Thank you for helping me...in a weird sort of way. Do you think she believed you?”

“I hope so.”

“She may be a demon, but she doesn’t have the power of Satan behind her anymore. She only has dreams to feed off of and sustain her existence.”

“She also has sex with me when she visits. She satisfies desires I never knew I had.”

“That is way more than I cared to know about, Devon.”

“As much as you think I am a terrible person, I’m not. I would have done anything for you and I still would. I may have done some less than righteous things, just as you have, but I’m not a bad man.”

“I know I’m not perfect either, that’s why I’m a demon now for fucks sake, because of my less than holy lifestyle. That is why I need your help so that you don’t end up with the same fate as me.”

“Alright, where should she find you at?”

I knew just the place and hoped it would work.

CHAPTER 8

Roman and I were waiting at the destination Devon had chosen for me to come face to face with Lilith. When we arrived, there was a sudden bout of deja vu and I was back in my nightmare.

The beach was dark except for the sliver of soft grey moonlight that lit the gritty grains of sand and made them sparkle like thousands of tiny crystals for miles. No one was anywhere in sight on the beach except Roman, but he was staying hidden in case I needed him to come to my rescue. We were worried Lilith wouldn’t show if she knew Roman was already there, but then again, she may show just because he was there. All of this revenge was because of him anyways since she didn’t take rejection well. Women fighting for a man made me sick and I never understood it, but Roman was pretty amazing so I could kind of understand why she wanted him so bad. I was never going to give him up, so she was shit out of luck.

In my dream the sand had been pitch black, but right then it was just a normal tan sandy beach until the moment Lilith appeared on cue in the distance, making her way towards me. The sand began to change into inky pools of black underneath her feet with each graceful step she took.

The showdown was about to take place and I was terrified. Devon followed behind her and from the evil in his gaze, I didn’t think he was on my side anymore – if he even really had been. He had, after all, teamed up with her from the beginning and he knew how to play the game; he was a dirty lawyer for fucks sake.

She was wearing the exact same silky emerald green dress and her fierce emerald eyes burned a hole into my soul. She was beautiful though with milky white skin that made her eyes look greener, long scarlet red hair with loose beach waves, and sharp feminine features. When she got closer, I could see the silk cincture that matched her dress wrapped tightly around her waist and hanging from it was the black dagger; the dagger I needed from her.

Once she was finally in front of me, the smell of sweet jasmine overpowered my nose and cold bitter air hit my face. The demonic sensation of sex and evil lingered heavy and thick in the air surrounding us. I could tell she was not of this earth.

“So, we meet again, Holland.” Her voice was smooth and sweet, but it wasn’t fooling me because behind the calm tone of her voice, she was a demon that had been cast from Hell and was spending all of eternity sucking the lives from men, unless I could get that dagger and kill the bitch. If I didn’t get it, she would kill me instead.

“I haven’t met you before, but I have heard of you.” I raised my eyebrows with acid in my voice.

“From Lucifer I presume.”

“Lucifer and...Roman.”

Her eyes lit up from the mention of his name. “Ah, Roman. The demon of every woman's desires. So how is Roman?”

“He’s amazing! Originally, he was assigned to be my watcher, but as I’m sure you know, we fell in love and the rest is history.”

Her eyes slit into glares and anger seethed from her porcelain face. Part of my plan was to rile her up and get her defenses down which seemed to be working.

“Ha ha ha ha, in love? Oh please, he isn’t in love. He just thinks that’s the easiest way to get you in bed, but as we all know, it’s way easier than that.”

So, the bitch was taking low blows. Two could play that game.

“He had already gotten me in bed – more than once.” I winked at her “Love didn’t play any part in it, but after some amazing, passionate nights together, we both decided that what we had was more than just lust. We are bonded eternally. Guess what you guys had wasn’t as special since he chose Lucifer over you. How does that feel, Lilith?”

She caught me off guard and lunged at me, violently swinging her arms and trying to connect with my face. I blocked most of the blows with my arms, but she did get a few good hits in. Luckily for me, being a demon meant I wasn’t able to bleed from a few measly punches. As long as the dagger stayed attached to her waist, I would take the hits.

I wrapped my fingers in her hair and pulled her head to my knee, slamming it hard into her nose, then kicked her straight in the stomach with my heel, sending her stumbling backwards, but moments later she was back and on top of me like a wild animal.

Roman, who was voyeuring the chaos, sprung from his hiding spot when he saw her on top of me, unable to get a good enough grip to throw her off.

He wrapped his arms around her waist flinging her from my body. The dagger dropped to the ground so I quickly got up scurrying to grab it from the sand, but Devon, who I had forgotten was even there, swiped it up before I could.

“You son of a bitch! We made a deal.”

“Deals are made to be broken, Holland. Lilith promised me eternal life with her and with that comes its own power. I don’t need your inheritance or anything from Lucifer. She told me never to make a deal with the devil because he will turn his back on me just as he turned his back on her.”

“Just as Lucifer wanted his own power and fell from God's grace, Lilith wanted her own power and double-crossed Lucifer. She made her bed and that is why she was banished.”

He paused for a minute looking as though he was internalizing what I had said.

“Whatever she told you is all a lie, Devon. I may have called the cops on you, but I sure as hell never lied to you. If you help her, I promise you that you will regret it.”

He looked down at the dagger he held in his shaking hands. He was way in over his head and was realizing it just then.

I reached my hand out to him, trying to coax him into handing me the dagger before Lilith realized what was happening.

His lip quivered. “I...I just want people to flock to me like they did Bartholomew James. He was the lawyer everyone sought after and was the biggest piece of shit in LA.”

“Give me the dagger and you will be more than what Bart ever was. Bart met his demise, and someone needs to take over, someone like you.”

“Did you kill him, Holland?”

I paused for a minute unsure if I should answer truthfully or not, but I had just told him I never lied to him and didn’t want to chance losing his trust now. He held my fate in his quivering hands.
