Wicked Heat (Chicago Heat #1)(45)
Author: Ella Frank

Jameson didn’t look away from me as he said, “Get lost, Brumm.”

“Aw, come on, Clarke. Don’t be like that.”

“Get very lost, and take Isaacs with you.”

I’d been wondering earlier what exactly these guys knew about mine and Jameson’s situation. If they hadn’t known we were more than roommates before, they definitely did now.

Brumm and Isaacs left the room and shut the door behind them. When Jameson got to his feet, I ran my eyes down over his body. He had on black gym shorts that sat low on his hips.

“How’s your morning going, GQ?”

Amazing now, I wanted to say, but my words got stuck somewhere in the back of my throat as Jameson walked me backward until I hit the wall.

“You’re lookin’ good.”

My breathing was coming hard as I racked my brain in an attempt to form a coherent sentence.

“You look sweaty.”

Jameson chuckled, and the sound was so goddamn sexy that I put my hands on the wall behind me in an effort to stay on my feet and not attack him.

“Do you like that?”

“Oh my God.” I squeezed my eyes shut. “So much you should probably move away from me.”

His lips began to move up my jaw line. “Why would I want to do that?”

My chest heaved as he continued up to my ear. “Because you’re at work, and so am I, and it would be inappropriate for me to rip your clothes off.”

Jameson raised his head, and the scorching fire flickering in his eyes threatened to consume me. “That’s a shame.”

“You’re telling me. You look…” I swallowed. “You look so damn hot.”

Jameson’s lips twitched. “Well, if you’re not going to rip my clothes off, I guess I’ll have to settle for this.”

He took my lips in a fierce kiss. I dug my fingers into the wall behind me and sucked on the tongue dominating me. His scent filled my head as he plundered my mouth, and had we been anywhere but where we were, my hands would’ve been all over him. As it was, I thought I might leave holes in the wall with how difficult it was to keep them to myself.

Jameson bit at my lower lip and when he kissed me again, and I finally gave in and moved a hand to his chest.

His skin was hot and sexy beyond anything I’d ever imagined, but just as I was about to get myself into a whole world of trouble, there was a knock on the door and then it was pushed open.

Jameson immediately stopped, and then a throat was cleared.

Shit.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but I was looking for my PA,” Alexander said.

Jameson took a step back, and flames flooded my face as I saw the evidence of his arousal behind his loose shorts. There was no way Alexander could miss that.

“It seems that you found him.”

Oh God, kill me now.

“You must be Jameson. Ryan’s…roommate.” Alexander held his hand out as though Jameson wasn’t standing there half-naked and fully hard. “I’m Alexander.”

“Yeah, uh, I know who you are.” Jameson, apparently not fazed at all by what we’d just been caught doing, shook Alexander’s hand. “Ryan talks about you all the time.”

My boss’s eyes shifted to me and twinkled. “Does he? I’d be surprised if he even remembered my name right now.”

I willed my brain to work, and when I finally managed to locate a few words, I said, “I’m sorry I was gone so long.”

“Are you?”

Clearly not, but I wasn’t saying that.

“Yes, um…” I smoothed a hand down my tie for something to do other than grab Jameson again. “I was just about to head back.”

“Yes, that’s very obvious. You’re such a diligent worker.”

I was never going to live this down. And when Alexander winked at me and turned back to Jameson, I panicked.

“I’m actually glad I ran into the two of you. There’s a charity event coming up this weekend, and ENN has been invited. I’d love for you to come with Ryan.”

What? I didn’t know about any charity event, and even if I had, it wasn’t really Jameson’s scene. Alexander was up to something, and if he wasn’t my boss, I might’ve kicked him.

Jameson looked at me, and I tried my best not to look mortified at the position Alexander had just put him in.

“Sure.” He nodded and turned back to Alexander. “Thanks for the invite.”

“Of course. I look forward to seeing you there. Ryan? Five minutes and I’ll see you in the conference room.”

I nodded, hoping that would be the end of that. When Alexander left and shut the door, I let out a deep breath. “I’m so sorry.”

Jameson frowned. “Why? I’m the one who attacked you.”

“Yeah, but now you’re stuck coming to this event with me, and I know it’s not your thing. I swear I didn’t know anything about it until just now.”

“It’s just a dinner. How bad can it be?”

Not bad at all, in my opinion. But I knew Jameson, and this was not his kind of thing. “You’re right, and if you don’t want to go—”

“GQ? I said I’d go with you, so I’ll go.”

Ah, so he was doing this for me. I had to admit, I kind of liked that. It would be nice to finally show up at one of these work events with a plus-one. So if he was willing to sit through a fancy dinner party for me, I wouldn’t stop him.

I trailed my finger along the waist of his shorts and ghosted a kiss across his lips. “Do you think you could be wearing these when I get home tomorrow night?”

Jameson chuckled and nipped at my lower lip. “Yeah, I think that could be arranged.”

“Good,” I said as I opened the door and took one final look. “I’ll see you then.”

Chapter 32

Jameson

I TUGGED ON my bow tie for the millionth time as I stepped out of Ryan’s car and shut the door behind me.

Tonight was the night of the charity event Alexander had more or less railroaded me into, and when I’d found out it was being held at the Peninsula Hotel, I realized the mistake I’d made in accepting. This wasn’t just some small dinner with a few guests who would donate a couple of bucks. It was a full-on black-tie event, and when I found out the scope of the thing, I’d almost cancelled.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be here with Ryan, more that I never fit in when it came to things like this. The clothes, the people, the money that was on display always made me feel uncomfortable. I looked at the other guests arriving at the valet and knew this had been a bad idea.

“Everything okay?” Ryan asked for what had to be the tenth time since we’d left the apartment. He was obviously picking up on my mood and vibe, and I was doing a piss-poor job of hiding it.

“All good. Just not used to this penguin suit, that’s all.” It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either. Sure, the tux and bow tie felt completely foreign, but this kind of venue felt like an entirely different planet.

Ryan stroked his hand down the lapel of my rented tux. “Well, you look very dashing, and it’s just for a couple of hours, then I’ll tear you out of it. Deal?”
