Carson (Lighthouse Security Investigations West Coast #1)(42)
Author: Maryann Jordan

During the night they’d stayed connected, and now, her head rested on his bicep with his arm curled around her back, his other arm resting on her waist, his fingers on the swell of her ass. Their legs were tangled, and she was aware of his thick erection pressing between them and the evidence supported he was sleeping nude. Tingles of need started in her core and spread outward. Suddenly no longer sleepy, she considered rubbing herself along his thigh. A slow grin spread over her face at a change of thought, deciding to give him relief.

She managed to slide her leg from between his, and he didn’t wake as he rolled to his back. She shifted her body down until his cock was in view. Licking her lips, she shifted her body over his thighs, her gaze landing on the scars on his leg, and she remembered their first meeting. Desiring to focus on giving him pleasure, she slid her mouth around his erection. Not surprised he woke instantly, his hands darted into her hair, the grip almost painful as he groaned.

“Fuckin’ hell, Jeannie. Fuuuuck.”

She bobbed up and down, taking him as deep as she could, fisting his base, her fingers touching him where her mouth couldn’t. She licked and sucked, loving the feel and the taste of him, and the heady sense of power and knowing a strong man was giving her control made her determined to give him everything she could.

His cock began to swell even more, and he groaned, “I want you up here, babe. I want to see your face.” His hands left her hair and slid under her armpits, easily lifting her up.

She opened her mouth to complain until she looked down and saw the gleam in his eyes and wanted to give him anything he needed. She straddled his hips and watched his lips curve upward as he nodded.

“Ride me, baby. I want to see you when you come.”

His rough, sleep-gravel voice vibrated through her, and she felt it in her core. Lifting, she reached down and positioned his cock at her entrance then slowly seated her body, sheathing him completely. With her palms on his chest, she rose and fell, gaining more speed as her need twisted inside, consuming her.

One large hand cupped her ass and the other fondled her breasts, moving between them, tweaking her nipples.

“Lean down, babe.” His command was growled but his voice was soft, and she was eager to comply.

Leaning over, she shifted slightly so he was able to latch on to a nipple, sucking deeply. The electricity moving between her breasts and her sex caused all her nerves to begin firing at once. The new angle not only increased the friction of his cock dragging her inner walls but had her clit rubbing against his pelvis.

A flash of the previous evening when she’d thought of standing on the precipice with him ran through her mind, and once again, she had that feeling. But he’d always catch her. She was sure of that. With her short fingernails digging into the hard muscles of his shoulders, her body tensed, the coil tightening. When finally it sprang loose, she cried out his name as her orgasm pushed her over the edge.

Barely aware of anything other than her pulsating body, she heard him roar and quickly looked down to see he’d followed her over the same cliff. He continued to thrust until they finally lay together, chests heaving, heart pounding, breaths mingling. She lay spread out over his body, uncertain she could move. Finally, pushing up slightly, she peered into his face, light shining in his eyes, his lips curved. He lifted a hand and brushed the sweaty tendrils from her face.

There was so much she wanted to say, but the only thing that came out of her mouth was, “I love waking up with you.”

He barked out a laugh and his arms tightened around her, rolling them to their sides. Kissing her thoroughly, he mumbled against her lips. “Love waking up with you, too, babe.”

“I also need to take a moment to let you know that I’m really glad you came over last night.”

His hand cupped her face as his thumb gently smoothed over her cheek, his eyes roving over her face. “I’m honored you feel that way, Jeannie. Best decision I’ve ever made.”

They kissed for a long moment, hot and hard before trailing off to soft nibbles. She’d been so caught up in their physical connection and reality was now creeping in.

He peered deeply into her face, then asked, “What are you thinking?”

“I guess I was wondering what happens now.”

She watched as he smiled, her heart stumbling at the warmth she felt surrounding her. “Now, we start the beginning of you and me.”

“You want me to do what?”

Carson stood in the middle of Jeannie’s tiny kitchen and stared her down. “You know it has to happen.”

She plopped her cup of coffee onto the counter and huffed.

Not giving her a chance to come up with another ridiculous argument, he stepped closer, leaned forward, and placed his hands on the counter on either side of her. With her caged, he leaned down and kissed her forehead, mumbling against her soft skin. “Babe, it’s the only way. The only way to make sure that you’re safe.”

“It’s too far for me to commute,” she protested.

“I didn’t think you’d made up your mind to go back to LA Community Hospital.”

She leaned back, her eyes on his, her lips tight. He braced, knowing he deserved what was coming.

“I don’t like bringing up something unpleasant right after we just got back together, but until the wee hours of this morning, I was single, had no one but me to base a decision on, and figured I’d suck it up and go back to the madhouse ER until I could see what else was out there.”

“Fair enough, Jeannie. But first of all, I gotta say that I don’t want you to ever dread bringing something up to me, unpleasant or not. If we’re together, we’re going to have a lot of things to talk about, and not all of them are going to be sunshine and roses. So, you feel free to say whatever needs to be said at any time.” As soon as those words left his mouth, he watched the tension in her body relax, her tawny eyes shining. “That’s not all. You should never have to suck it up and work a job that’s eating away at you. I know everybody’s got to work, and not everybody has a job they love. But with your skills and your kindness, you need to pour that into a job that gives you something back. So, whether we got together or not, you should never have to suck it up.”

Her hands landed flat on his chest, her lips sucked in and pressed tightly together, moisture gathering in her eyes. “Thank you for that, honey,” she whispered.

“You don’t have to thank me for anything. And as much as I love the way you’re looking at me right now and the way I feel the word honey right in my gut, we still have to hash this out.”

Her head dropped and her forehead landed on his chest, and he once again pressed his lips to the top of her hair. “We now know that someone on the Garza estate has been able to listen to you and Maggie. And while you never told her anything you shouldn’t, they divined that something was going to go down and they heightened security.” Her head jerked back as her eyes sought his, and he shook his head, continuing, “That’s on me, not you. We did what we needed to do and we’re getting the information we need to get. But what that means is that someone knows you’re involved in something beyond just checking in on Maggie. And that, babe, puts you in danger. Where you live is public record, which means we’re lucky as fuck that no one has gotten to you. That eats at my gut, and that’s on me, too.”
