Safeguarding Kelly(38)
Author: Zoe Dawson

Opening her mouth wide against his and drinking in his taste, his need, she slid her hands under the fabric and down his buttocks, then dragged her mouth down his neck, down his chest, stopping to lick his hard male nipples. Slowly, so slowly, she settled on her knees. He made a low, guttural sound and grasped her head, his fingers snagging in her hair, holding her immobile. Sliding her hands down the backs of his thighs, she slowly licked his six-pack, and Jason ground out her name and flattened himself against the wall, his hands clutching her head. She wanted to touch him everywhere, to erase the memories of those other humiliating, shaming touches. She wanted to give him such pleasure that he would forget how she had taken so much from him, and she wanted to paralyze him with need. Caressing the backs of the soft flesh of his inner thighs, Jason jerked and groaned her name. But he didn’t pull away, and sensations piled in on her. “Look at me, babe,” she whispered brokenly. “Please look.” Then, on a soft moan, she took him into her mouth.

Lying with her head on Jason’s shoulder, Kelly shifted, drawing her leg up over his, lazily stroking his ribs as she watched the blinds move in and out in the breeze. Jason kissed the top of her head. He adjusted his other arm around her and stroked her hip, then said, his voice husky with amusement. “You’re filled with surprises.” He continued combing his fingers through her wet hair, gently easing out the tangles. “We’re going to have to get some snorkels if we take any more showers like that.”

Kelly laughed softly and pinched him. “Everything with you is an adventure.”

He found another knot in her hair and worked it loose. She could tell he was smiling when he said, “Ditto, lady.”

Kelly gave him a little hug, then shifted her head and looked at him, loving the warm glimmer in his eyes. She wasn’t sure when or how they actually got into the shower, but by the time he backed her up against the wall and slipped inside her, she’d been nearly out of her mind. And she hadn’t quite recovered from it yet. Cupping his jaw, she stretched up and kissed him, loving the way his mouth went soft and pliant beneath hers. Drawing away, he released a long sigh and smoothed his hand across her hip, reluctance darkening his eyes. “We’ve got to get going. I only came back to take a shower and change clothes,” he said huskily. “Kai will be calling us all back soon to take another run at Blake.”

Kelly heaved a sigh, as well. She wished she could stretch this morning out forever. She brushed his mouth with hers. He grabbed her chin and kissed her more deeply. “I can drive myself and drop Kiko to daycare.”

He nodded. She cupped his jaw, and their eyes met for a charged moment, then she reluctantly drew away. She didn’t want to get out of bed. But Jason was right. They had jobs to do, and Special Agent in Charge Kai Talbot would get antsy. Extracting herself from his hold, she sat up and let the sheet drop.

“Damn,” he whispered softly. “You’re so beautiful, Kelly.” He gently, so gently caressed the swell of her breath with the backs of his fingers, then he shifted closer and covered the nipple in a soft, wet, open-mouthed kiss. Kelly couldn’t breathe, and she closed her eyes and gripped his shoulder. He drew away, then pulled her head down, kissing her with immeasurable care. You taste so damn good,” he whispered huskily, and Kelly wanted to dissolve.

“Jason,” she said, her tone breathless and serene.

She felt him smile against her mouth, then he abruptly rolled away, and she drew up her knees and weakly rested her head against them, her pulse in a frenzy. God, the things he could do to her.

She heard his bag unzip, then the rustle of clothing. When she opened her eyes, she was zipping up a clean pair of jeans. He picked up the comforter off the floor and dropped it on the bed, then crossed the room and swept up her robe. Kelly experienced a sobering sensation in her midriff when she saw the scar on his shoulder. He brought her robe to her, a definite smile in his eyes, but Kelly couldn’t smile back. Suddenly she had to know.

“It must have been devastating when you could swim anymore.”

He shot her a startled glance, then, his eyes suddenly dark, he nodded. “It was. Other than you leaving and finding out about Kiko, one of the most devastating days of my life.”

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered.

He exhaled and looked at the ceiling, then turned and met her gaze. “Shit happens, babe. All we can do is roll with it and find our center in the madness, then move on.”

She rose to her knees and cupped his face with both of her hands. “You are such a strong and beautiful man.”

“Mommy?” The door handle rattled, then there was a tentative knock. “Mommy.”

Jason chuckled, his eyes lighting up and his face relaxing. “Get dressed. I’ll take care of the munchkin.”

While she dressed, he got Kiko ready to go to daycare. In a few short months, she would be starting kindergarten. She could hardly believe it.

By the time she was ready, Jason had already made breakfast for Kiko and gave her a quick kiss before he headed for the door. His cell rang as he touched the handle, and he pulled it out of his back pocket and grinned. Pointing at it, he answered. “Hi, Kai. I’m on my way.”

The door closed behind him.

As Kelly got Kiko into the car under the watchful eye of her two bodyguards, a horrible sense of foreboding washed through her. The next few days were going to be busy, mostly for Jason. Her job was pretty much done.

Kelly dropped Kiko off at her daycare center on her way in to work. As soon as she entered NCIS and set her purse down, she went to look for him.

She found him in interrogation with a dark-haired man that must be Dr. Adam Blake. As she studied him, she was struck by the weird sense that he just wasn’t Serena’s type. She didn’t know why.

As she stood there watching, the door opened and Derrick entered. “Dr. Blake, please stand up.”

The man looked sick but complied. Derrick slipped cuffs around his wrists and said, “You’re under arrest for the murders of Captain George Crouch, Lieutenant Emily Thompson, Sergeant Carla Hudson, Petty Officer Allen Smith, and Captain Michael Green.” He recited the Miranda.

“Wait. Why are you arresting me now?” Dr. Blake asked, his voice strained. “I told you I didn’t do it.”

“The forensics have come back on the drill in your garage. It had all the victims’ blood on it. Irrefutable evidence along with the fact that you illegally breached patient confidentiality and went into their files for the purpose of killing them. You’re going away for a long time.”
