Logan : Darlington Brothers Series Book 3(13)
Author: Avery North

Logan lay down beside her, looking deep into her eyes, stroking her face. “You are enchanting. When I’m with you, I forget about everything else.”

Chelsea smiled, putting her hand on the side of his face. “I haven’t felt like this for a long time. I’d really like to get to know you better, Logan Darlington,” she said, looking at him adoringly. "We shouldn't be doing this, though. You do have a girlfriend."

“It’s over between us. We just go through the motions,” Logan said, shaking his head slightly. “This is where I want to be.”

They lay on the couch for an hour, talking, kissing, and laughing. Normally, Logan would be focused on having sex, but with Chelsea, sex didn’t matter. What mattered was just spending time with her.

“I should go,” Logan said finally. “Thank you.”

“For what? I didn’t do anything,” Chelsea said, sitting up.

“You did more than you know,” Logan said, kissing her tenderly on the lips. “I’ll get some numbers together for you. Good night Chelsea MacDuff.”

Logan got out to his car and checked his phone. Seven missed calls from Vanessa. He was sure she would be wondering where he was, and he didn't care. What he did care about was how he was going to tell Vanessa it was over and that she had to move out. He knew that no matter what, he said it was going to be unpleasant. He just needed to find the right time.

Vanessa sat on the kitchen stool, drumming her fingers impatiently on the counter. Where the hell was Logan? She had told him about the party tonight, at least she thought she had, and now they were going to be late.

Hearing the front door open, she jumped up.

“There you are. Where have you been?" she said, putting her hands on her hips.

"I had to go and inspect a house, and it took me longer than I thought. Why? What’s going on?”

“Don’t you remember? We are going to Sydney and Glen's anniversary party tonight. I told you about it last week," Vanessa said, annoyed.

Logan furrowed his brow. “I don’t remember you telling me that. Why do I have to go? They’re your friends, and I don't even know them."

Vanessa looked at Logan pouting. “I can’t show up by myself. Please just go get changed and then we can go.”

Logan looked at her and gave her a half smile. He wanted her in a good mood before he told her it was over, so if this was what it took, so be it.

“Okay, I’ll be right down,” he smiled at her before he turned and ran up the stairs.

The party was in full swing when Logan and Vanessa arrived. After saying hello to the anniversary couple, Logan made his way to the bar while Vanessa joined a group of her friends.

Logan leaned against the bar, nursing his beer, wondering what Chelsea was doing now. He was remembering the softness of her kisses and the effect they had on him when he saw Vanessa look over and glare at him.

He waved over to her and forced a smile, wondering what was wrong with her. A second later, she was storming over.

“Kate says she saw you out for dinner with another woman. Is that true?”

Logan felt his stomach drop and shook his head. “I told you I had a dinner meeting with a potential client.”

“Where you ate in the private dining room of Craigstones? Kate said, you were laughing and having a real fun time."

Logan glared at Vanessa. “Kate is nothing but a troublemaker. Why are you listening to her?”

"One thing I will not tolerate is you cheating on me, Logan Darlington. You are my possession, and no one else can have you," Vanessa blurted out.

“I beg your pardon? Your possession?” Logan said, putting his beer on the counter. “That’s it. I’m leaving. Tomorrow you can pack your things and get them moved out of my house. We are done.”

Chapter 11

Logan went home alone that night, somewhat relieved that it was over with Vanessa but uneasy with the way it had happened. He knew she would be upset, but right now, he didn't care. Filled with relief that their relationship was over, Logan slept in the spare bedroom and, for the first time in a long while, he slept deeply and through the night, waking up the next morning feeling refreshed.

The house was unusually quiet when he got up, and the master bedroom door was wide open, letting him know that Vanessa hadn’t come home the night before.

Making coffee, he heard the front door open and smiled to himself.

“That was some party,” he said as she walked into the kitchen.

“Oh, the party was boring. I ended up calling a friend, and we went out," Vanessa said, slurring her words a bit.

“Are you still drunk?”

“Maybe I am. What do you care? Run to your new girlfriend, why don't you."

“Really? Grow up, Vanessa. So, where were you?”

"I went out with Tim, and I had a wonderful evening. We went back to his place, and we fucked all night long. I came twenty times. Every fucking room. We fucked and fucked and fucked, and you know what? He's ten times better than you, and he knows exactly how to please me, with his mouth, his tongue, his fingers, and especially his cock!”

Logan stood looking at her, taking a sip of his coffee. "Well, that’s great. I’m glad you had a good time. Now that you’re back, you can go pack up your shit. I want you out of here by ten."

Vanessa stood staring at him, blinking as tears formed in her eyes. “Oh Logan, I’m so sorry,” she cried, letting the tears fall. “Nothing happened. I was just saying that to make you jealous. Please, Logan. I didn’t mean it.”

Logan shook his head. “Too late for sorry. I’m kind of glad we went to the party because it showed me what a vile, crass person you are. I want you out of my house and out of my life.” He looked at his watch. “You better hurry because the movers will be here in twenty minutes.”

Vanessa glared at him. “Where am I supposed to go on such short notice?”

Logan shrugged. “Don’t know, don’t care. Maybe give Tim a call seeing as you know his place so well?”

Three hours later, Logan had his bedroom back, and his clothes were back in his closet. What a mistake it had been to let Vanessa move in. He was so happy that he hadn’t considered marrying her.

After he had tidied up his kitchen, he called Chelsea, hoping she was free. He felt like being with her.

"Hi, Logan. How are you?” she answered the phone quickly.

“Much better now. Vanessa moved out, and I’m free,” Logan said.

"Oh, dear. Logan, I’m so sorry. It wasn’t because we kissed?”

“Actually, no. I want to tell you all about it. How about a picnic this afternoon? I know a nice secluded place by a small river. It's a beautiful day out there, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather spend time with."

Chelsea laughed, sounding pleased. “Well, I’m at work now, but I finish around three thirty.”

Logan laughed as well. He sometimes forgot that other people worked regular hour jobs and had forgotten that it was a Monday. Of course, she would be at work. “I forgot about work; my hours are so sporadic. Three thirty would be great. I’ll pack us a picnic, and I'll swing by your place to pick you up. Would four be better? That will give you time to get home and change.”
