His touch set fire to my skin as we pawed at each other like ravenous animals desperate to feel on the outside what had been consuming us both on the inside.

His hands found their way to my neck and he grabbed hard, tilting it to the side. The moon cast shadows across his face, making shivers of desire run through me. “Are we on the same page, kitten?” His words asked a question, but his eyes were already answering it.

I could feel myself blushing in the moonlight. “I like when you call me that…”

The corner of his lip curved up into a devilish grin at my words and as I exhaled, his mouth devoured the soft skin of my neck and made its way down my collarbone. Between nips, he spoke again. “I know a secluded spot, want to see it?” He asked, his eyes twinkling in the moonlight.

“Why do I feel like this is going to escalate quickly?” I giggled.

“Because it already did.” He answered, eyeing me with the hunger of a wild animal. “Come on.” He grabbed me, threw me into the air, and over his shoulder.

“Omg, Matt!” I screeched as he slapped my ass hard and kept on marching. “Where are we going?”

“Just enjoy the ride, kitten.” He laughed.

After a few minutes of marching through the forest, he announced “We’re here!” as he set me back up on my feet.

I gasped as I brushed the hair from my face. Right there before us, surrounded by trees, a small pond glistened in the moonlight. Still and calm, reflecting out into the world everything that was beautiful and pure. The smell of the pine trees filled the air. It was like being allowed in to a magical world that I had only ever dreamed of.

I shivered visibly, causing Matt to wrap me up in his arms in an instant.

“I used to come here every time I visited my mom.” He said wistfully as he held me tight. “And always at night. Every time I felt lost or unsure of where my life was going, this is where I would come.”

“How did you find it?” I snuggled in closer, his strong chest pushing against my back and his crotch fitting in the dip of my lower back.

“Actually, it was my mom who brought me here the first time. She said it was the day she found out that my father was killed. After she got the call, she was so wracked with emotion that she couldn’t contain herself. At the time, we lived about five miles from here, but she needed to immerse herself in the wild where she felt safe. Free. This was where she found her peace. For the first time in years, she didn’t have to worry that he would get out, come back, look for her, us, or hurt her ever again.”

Matt paused and we both relaxed into the silence. “She was always a little hippie, my mom…” He looked at me. “Dave says that’s what I see in you.”

“I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not…” I laughed.

“It most definitely is, sweet girl.”

“Anyway, she needed to release all the tension she’d carried for years, so she went hiking in the woods and found this place. She told me she stood here and howled at the moon like a feral animal. Finally releasing all the pain and terror she’d held inside for so long. Years later, when she inherited the land from my grandfather, she brought me here and told me the story. That was always her plan, to live and die near the spot that had helped her heal.”

He trailed off, staring at the moon as it reflected its light on to the water.

“That’s the most beautiful story.” I smiled, snuggling into his embrace. “Not my place, off course, but maybe it would be cool to scatter her ashes here?” I turned my head to look up at him.

He smiled, that signature megawatt Matt smile. “That’s why I brought you here. I wanted you to experience the magic of this place. I’d been thinking the same but was hesitating. I think she would have loved it, but in some ways, she was also very traditional. The way she loved the small-town life, wanted me to marry…”

“True. But despite her traditional side, she also seemed to do things her own way.” I offered. “Maybe being drawn to this place is her way of telling you what she would have wanted.” I watched as Matt smiled and nodded. He stayed silent for a long while, holding me tight and every so often kissing the top of my head.

We stayed rooted in place until our fingers and toes felt like they would fall off from the cold. Finally, as we walked back through the forest and towards the house, he whispered to me. “I’ve loved holding you the past few nights, Carly. You’ve been healing my heart. But tonight, I want more. I need you to heal all of me.”

Everything inside me exploded. “I thought you’d never ask.” I giggled.

Chapter 26

MATT

By the time we got back to the house and into our room, I couldn’t wait another second.

Grabbing Carly and pushing her down on to the bed, I fell on top of her and ravaged her mouth once more. Her sweetness under my tongue was addictive and I just couldn’t get enough. The tension between us had been growing ever since that night at the Inn and now, almost a week later, I could barely contain myself in her presence. I needed to touch her, feel her, make her scream, and above all else, lose myself inside her, body and soul.

“Carly…” I whispered between fevered gasps. “I know where we started that first time, and believe me, I want that again, but this time, baby, I want to take it slow, I want to worship you like the queen that you are.” I whispered in her ear.

“Does that mean you’re going all sweet and gentle on me?” She pouted. “Cause that’s not really my thing.” She teased, pulling her sweatshirt over her head and looking me square in the eyes from under those big lashes. I loved how playful and easy the banter between us was and how she trusted me right from the start.

“Fuck sweet and gentle, I never said that.” I growled possessively, pulling her jeans down her beautifully toned legs.

“Thank god, Matt. Because the last guy who was sweet to me in bed didn’t last too long.” She shrugged her shoulders and smirked.

Fuck. This exquisite woman was laying on my bed in just a lace bralette and tiny panties and she was practically begging me to rough her up. Slow down. I told myself as I adjusted my cock.

Running my hands down her breasts, I watched as she arched her back and bit her lip.

“Do you have any idea what you do to me?” I asked, slipping the straps of lace off her shoulders and further down to expose her pink nipples, which were begging for my attention. “So small, yet just screaming for me to bite them.” I whispered, hovering my mouth over one while kneading the other between my fingertips. Carly’s little moans were enough to make me explode right there. “Fuck you turn me on, sweet kitten.”
