But I stay silent and look down to the floor. I pray the man picked by my father would be kind and caring. I clasped my hand in front of my body as my father had taught me.
Father would be pleased by my behavior I thought to myself.
I was to be seen and not heard.
“Father am I getting engaged to someone here.”
My father does not answer my question, instead he simply stares straight ahead.
Frightened and terrified by everything.
I let my mind wander.
What if my father’s gambling habits have finally come to hit us? What if his boss found out?
I over heard my mother arguing with him once about the insane amount he spends without considering the consequences of his dark actions?
Then I heard her say, “You continue this way and it could ruin all of us. They could hurt or take us away. They could take our princess!”
I knew right there and then the she was referring to me. It hurt that I was being used as a pawn.
I hope tonight is not the night, I dreaded in a long time. But who would it be?
My fathers boss and the one of the richest men in the world. Sergei Dimitri stares at me with dark lust filled eyes.
I tell myself that I am imagining things.
But when he winks at me. I turn to my father expecting him to say something. But he looks away and dare not stare Dimitri in the eyes.
Everything seems so strange.
I kept looking up at my father wondering why are they looking lustfully at me?
Could it actually be that Sergei has found a suitor for me?
Finally Sergei walks away from father and I.
And Father then looks at me and says would you like something to snack on before we eat dinner?
I say, “Father please tell me what exactly this is all about?”
This is not like the usual party.
My father nodded and said, “I understand what you’re saying. And you are right it is not like the usual party you’re here because yes, you’re going to be meeting your future husband.”
I look away and swallow.
So this was finally happening?
I stare up at my father and say, “Is it someone I’ve already met?“
Father refuses to respond. Instead he says, “Just be patient when the time is right all will be revealed.“
I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t bothered by it all.
Oh yes I was worried. It made no sense whatsoever.
Thanks to my upbringing, I had no choice but to simply listen to what the elders in the brotherhood had to say.
I had no choice but to wait to accept father’s wishes even though I did not agree with it.
The party continued and of course father made sure that I stood by his side all the while. I was not allowed to dance with anyone.
When dinner time arrived, I got a surprise.
Rather than eating with the guests. Father Sergei and I have dinner over at his private balcony.
Yes this time there will be no one else present at the private table, just the three of us and of course his bodyguards.
My father holds my hand and leads me to the dinner table. He does not say a word. It was awkward.
We had bodyguards standing behind us, while the servers brought the decadent food.
No one dare look us in the eye.
A sign of respect, I glance up and notice one of the guards.
I remember him. He was definitely close to my father’s boss. So it made me wonder. Would I end up with him?
I might be innocent, but I can see his sexy face.
Staring at him makes my arousal grow.
My eyes stare up at his chiseled face.
He has on a dark suit and dark aviator sunglasses masking his eyes.
But I have seen his gorgeous hypnotic eyes before and that was the moment I instantly got a crush on him.
