Love is Contagious : A Charity Anthology(478)
Author: J. Saman

“No one workin’ today?” she asks.

“Wade went out on lunch and Sammy is off today,” I say motioning to the bathroom door.

She brushes past me dropping her bag on the floor and reaching inside for her clothes. She pulls her dress up over her head in one motion and my jaw drops to the floor.

“Ch-Charlotte, Wade could come back any minute, shut the door,” I say reaching for it.

She giggles as I close the door behind her and slump against it, exhaling. My dick is hard and I have to adjust it in my jeans as I try not to picture her being naked on the other side of that door.

“You’re no fun, Gabe,” she pouts, opening the door and tossing her backpack into my arms.

“Oh baby cakes, I can be tons of fun, you just threw me off guard,” I say grabbing her arm and pulling her back to me, pressing her into the wall.

She sucks in a breath and licks her lips as I lean down and kiss her, pressing my body into hers. I cup her face, deepening the kiss but her hand on my chest stops me.

“I...we need to stop this,” she says breaking the kiss. “Crap.”

“What’s the matter?” I laugh.

“You know what's the matter, we can't be doin' this yet, Gabe. You make me crazy, ya know that?” she says, smiling putting her hand on my cheek.

“You do the same. Come on, lemme show you how to change oil.”

I hold her hand as we walk back out to the garage and I move around towards the front of the truck.

“Here. Sit on the creeper, lemme grab one for myself so I can show ya.”

I motion for her to sit and walk over to the side of the garage, grabbing another creeper and sit next to her, laying back and kicking off to lay under the car. She does the same and I smile.

“Pretty girl, Charlotte Daniels gettin’ down and dirty under the hood of my pickup. What is the world comin’ to?”

“Oh hush, just teach me!”

“Alright, so right here is the drain plug. Ya gotta make sure you know where this is because we’re gonna put a container under it, drain all the old oil to put in the new stuff.”

I grab an old rag from the side of my jeans and reach over for the container.

“Wheel away a little, I don’t wanna get ya.”

She wheels herself away as I unscrew the plug with my rag, catching the falling oil into the container.

“Alright wheel out, baby cakes.”

We wheel out from under the car and I dust off my hands with the rag, tossing it to Charlotte.

“Although I like the dirty on ya,” I say winking. “Come here.”

I motion for her to stand next to me by the front of the car and show her how to unscrew the cap of the oil filter hole on the top of the engine.

“You wanna try? I won’t screw it on that tight,” I ask screwing it back on.

She nods and leans forward, unscrewing the cap as I put my hand on her lower back, creeping it down a little to touch her butt. She lets out a little sigh, bending forward a little more and my hands slide down further, past the denim of her Daisy Dukes to the skin on the back of her thigh.

“What in the hell is goin’ on here?” roars a loud voice from behind us.

Charlotte and I whip around, my hand dropping to my side.

“D-daddy! Gabriel was just showin’ me how to--”

“Where’s Wade? Y’all are alone in the garage?” he snaps, cutting off Charlotte.

“He went to lunch, should be back any minute sir. I didn’t mean to--”

“Save it mister. I got my eye on you. Hands to yourself,” he warns, pointing a finger at me.

I nod and Charlotte lets out a breath next to me. He turns, walking back out towards Main Street.

“Sorry about him,” Charlotte mumbles.

“No, he’s right, I’m sorry,” I say shaking my head.

“Don’t apologize, Gabriel. I...liked that.”

I glance up and her eyes are locked on mine, a small smile creeping up on her lips.

“You wanna go on a lake date with me tomorrow?” I ask with a smile crossing my arms over my chest.

“That's gonna be close to impossible with my daddy now, Gabe,” she laughs.

“I think I got a plan. Come on, let’s finish up here. I get my lunch break after Wade comes back, wanna grab a bite?”

“Sure.”

We turn back to the car and work for the next few minutes as Charlotte changes the oil with my hands firmly at my sides and Wade finally comes back.

“Hey Charlotte, how you doin’?”

“I’m great, Wade. How are you?”

“Doin’ good. I didn’t know you were comin’ to the garage today? Y’all...a...thing?” he asks motioning between the two of us.

“Have been for a year Wade,” I laugh slinging an arm over Charlotte’s shoulders. “Can I go grab somethin’ to eat?”

“Go for it. See ya later, Charlie.”

She waves to him as we walk out of the garage and down to the deli on Main Street.

“You get that assignment done for English this weekend?” she asks, as I lace our hands together.

“Not yet, you know me. It’s not due until sixth period tomorrow, I’ll work on it fifth,” I smile sheepishly.

“But then you’re gonna miss everything you’re learnin’ fifth period.”

“I’ll manage."

"Gabe, you gotta concentrate on school! I can't be doin' all your work like I did last year, I'm takin' hard classes."

"I'm not askin' you to. The coach at LSU said as long as I can swing a C+ they'll still offer me the baseball scholarship.”

I hold the door open for her and she rolls her eyes.

"Yeah, yeah, that's all fine and good but make sure you get that written in stone," she grumbles.

"Your parents still gettin' on you about tryin' out?"

"It ain't lady-like to be slidin' in the dirt, Charlotte," she imitates.

"Screw them. You hit better than half the guys on my team, you better tryout!"

We stand at the counter and order our sandwiches then find a booth in the back.

"I love ball, I've been playin' since I'm little, I can't give it up now," she groans.

"What changed? Why is your mama all about bein' a lady now?"

"Some crazy woman came into town goin' on and on about some modelin' agency and how I'd be a great fit and all this nonsense. I just wanna go to LSU with you and play ball. They don't get that.”

"Well you're grown enough to make your own decisions. I think you should do what makes you happy," I shrug.

The guy behind the counter comes to bring our sandwiches over and we dig in.

"Sixteen ain't hardly grown but...I guess you're right. What could it hurt? Who knows if I'll even make the team," Charlotte says, taking a bite of her sandwich.

"I think I'm lookin' at the startin' third basemen right now," I say with a smile.

"Thank you Gabe, for sayin' that but...we'll see."
