“Then marry her when we get home.”

Unsure now, he sizes me up. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“A week ago, I was alone. Now I have Neri and the rest of you. I’ll do shit when I’m ready to do shit.”

“What do you want from Neri?” he finally asks.
“Everything,” I say and then add with less vigor. “Or whatever she’ll offer. I haven’t decided how greedy I’ll be.”

“What if she wants children? Are you capable of being a father?”
“Why not? You did it.”
Jake moves aggressively toward me, but I don’t back up. If he wants to hit me, I guess I have to let the middle-aged fucker have his fun. Neri is too much of a fan of her father for me to knock him on his ass.
When I don’t flinch, Jake just grumbles under his breath. “I raised two happy children.”
“I’d applaud, but you’d probably assume I was mocking you.”
“Killing you would solve a lot of problems.”
I recall Neri’s words from yesterday. She’ll never look at her father the same way if he murders me. That was a big statement from a daddy’s girl. If I was prone to believe women, her words might be enough to prove she actually loves me.
“What type of man do you want for Neri?” I ask while tugging off my soaked boots. “How about a common businessman who might rat out your family’s secrets if things go wrong with Neri?”
Jake rolls his eyes. “I’d kill him before he snitched.”
“And if he’s the father of your grandchildren? Then they grow up and think you’re the asshole who stole away their daddy.”
“What makes you believe I won’t kill you at some point?” he asks, unsettled at someone he loves thinking poorly of him.
“I went years without fucking, and now I get to fuck your daughter. That means I won’t cheat,” I say as he literally growls like an animal. Continuing, I explain, “I lived alone with that dog for a year, so I’m easily impressed by shit. Neri pushes me around effortlessly, meaning she’ll always get what she wants. And finally, I am not friendly, and I don’t want to be your pal. That means we’ll stay out of each other’s way.”
“I like that last part.”
“How about you put away this relationship shit until we survive the next few days?”
Jake gives me a wary nod. “The airport is four hours from here.”
“At least half of that is through the Aryan’s territory.”
Giving up his pissed daddy stance, he orders me to meet him in the kitchen after I change. We’ll work out the logistics for tomorrow. I’m well aware he’s taking a big step by explaining where the airport is located, let alone the rest of the trip to his home.
