Shattered Souls(68)
Author: B C Morgan

“What’s the point in this? Because her sister was a bitch? Get over it. Everyone else has. She’s in a fucking hospital because she’s practically nuts. Don’t you think that’s enough?” He grinds out as a gasp hits the air. We both turn our heads to see Luna standing there, staring at us.

Wearing a pair of black leather pants, a blank sweater with a white top underneath it, and a pair of black heels.

“Star…”

“Don’t. I can’t do this.” She spins around and runs out of the front doors. How is she even running in those damn heels? Although, this is going better than anything I could have planned myself. Sometimes, fate does work in your favor. Thank you, evil mistress.

“Fuck,” his shout echoes around the surprisingly empty atrium as he clutches at his hair.

“Well done, lover boy. I guess the cat’s out of the bag now.” I chuckle and he draws his fist back. I just stand there waiting for the strike, but it doesn’t come. Instead, he charges outside, chasing after the poor Little Mouse.

Let’s see if she continues to play by the rules, or if I’ll have to come up with a fitting punishment. Hmm, things are definitely getting interesting, if only my hands weren’t tied by fucking Arthur.

I step outside and just wait, leaning against the wall at the top of the stairs. Ten minutes pass before Emmet reappears, his nostrils flare as he spots me. He swallows the distance and slams his palm into my chest.

“You motherfucker, I am going to make you pay for this.”

“I didn’t do anything. You were the one who brought Poppy up, and where anyone could overhear. Really, this is all on you. It’s going to be fun watching you get yourself out of this mess. Oh damn!” I slap my head against my forehead, before smirking at him. “You can’t talk to her, such a shame. Guess I’ll just have to offer her a shoulder to cry on. Well, I can offer her something. See you around, Princey boy. Try not to be too glum.” I pout before I push off the wall and walk back inside.

That’s him down, I just have to decide how I’m going to play this with Luna. Although sometimes, there is nothing better than the truth.

I step into the grounds and walk aimlessly. If I find her, great and if I don’t, I’m not about to lose any sleep over it.

I walk over to the maze entrance, although I doubt she would have gone in there, when my phone starts blowing up.

Tuck: So, she knows. I really can’t leave those bastards alone for five minutes, can I? For fuck’s sake, don’t push me, Thal. Leave her alone.

Emmet: I don’t care what the fuck you say, this on you. I’m going to fucking annihilate you.

Aeron: What the fuck? Does she really know about Poppy? Please, Thal, don’t use this as a weapon. She’s been through enough when it comes to her family. Please, some things have to be off limits. Just be human for once in your life, be human.

Me: Okay, if I don’t see her before you get back then I’ll rule it off limits. However, you’re the third person to message me about this and I’m not feeling particularly agreeable. So, unless you’re here to stop me, if I see her first then I’m going to roll it all out at her feet. See you around, mate.

My phone goes off again but I tuck it into my pocket, I’m done with this bullshit.

I see Luna disappear into the pool house and I debate about following her in. Maybe it’s better to draw it out, let her stew in her pain and confusion, before I twist the knife in further.

She comes out a few moments later and looks around before walking off towards the topiaries. What the fuck is this girl doing? Does she even know? And do I really want to follow her around? No, not really. It’s boring as fuck, I think I’d rather go and FaceTime with my parents and see how they’re getting on.

Well, they’re doing fine, too busy to actually talk. I guess that is life telling me that my only option is to torment Luna. Well, if that’s what the universe wants, who am I to disappoint?

She isn’t in her room, which is annoying and I can’t find her in the gym or library either. The thing is, I don’t know the girl well enough to know where she would go. I know she likes to fight, but she hides it and I doubt she’d go looking for someone to beat on. She studies hard, but she isn’t in any of the places where I would think she would go to do that. What else do I know?

She has best friends in D and Maddox come to think about it. Although, with the state she was in, I wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to be alone. I know that’s what I would choose, and I’m starting to think we may be more alike that I initially thought. Fuck, I don’t know how I feel about that.

I’m missing something, I know I am. Like a light bulb switching on it suddenly dawns on me, the one thing I took from her, that she was more than vocal about, her baking. And I’m guessing if she’s anywhere, then it will be the kitchens.

It’s a little after eight, so dinner has already been served. Meaning it should be fairly empty. Not that I care if we have an audience. It just means more people to witness her humiliation and agony. Come to think about it, the more the merrier.

I set off for the kitchens, my plan laid out with a neat little bow. I’m going to lay it all out for her, every last little detail, let her finally see what a monster her sister truly is. That should make her suffer, maybe even more than all the other things I’ve done, put together. I should have thought of this ages ago.

I open the doors to see Luna mixing furiously, a streak of flour is across the side of her cheek, and her face is pulled into a scowl.

“Hello, Little Mouse,” I drawl out, she blows out harshly, but doesn’t stop mixing. Not until she places the bowl back on the side and starts rooting around for a tray, seeming to make as much noise as possible.

“It’s rude to ignore people.”

She laughs, this bitter sound as she pours the mixture into the tray. But she still isn’t saying anything, it’s kind of taking all the fun out of the situation.

“Come on, I’m ordering you to speak. Turn around and just fucking say something.” She spins on her heels, her eyes narrowing to slits, as her chest heaves.

She bridges the distance between us, before she jabs her finger into my chest. The little spitfire has some balls on her, I’ll give her that.

“You want me to speak? Is that really what you want, Thallon?” Why is she drawing my name out like that?

“Yes, hit me with your best shot.” I chuckle and I watch as her fist clenches but she keeps it at her side. Her finger is still pressing into my chest.

“I am so freaking angry right now, and I don’t even know who I should be aiming it at.” Her teeth are gritted tight, and her face is covered in lines as her nostrils flare like crazy. “My mother kept it from me, letting me continue to think that Poppy is amazing and can do no wrong. The disappointment she felt when she found out I was coming here, did she react the same way with her? The guys acted as though they didn’t know anything. Acted as though I’m important, even though everyone reminded me that I’m so inconsequential, I barely register. And then there's you.” She steps closer, her breasts brush against my chest. With her heels on, she’s almost eye level to me. “The guy who asked me question after question about her. I mean, it all makes sense now. What was the point? To get more ammo, or do you just enjoy seeing me suffer that much?” Despite all the anger, I can see the devastation in her eyes. the way they glisten, and the way her lip trembles slightly.
