To My Dad's Hot Best Friend (The Inappropriate Bachelors #8)(22)
Author: J. S. Cooper

I called my friend Ann. “Hey, bitch. What’s up?” I said as she answered.

“Not much. What’s up with you?” She sounded annoyed.

I knew it was because I hadn’t seen or hung out with her in a while, but she had to understand I was popular. I had other things to do. I was upset as soon as the thoughts crossed my mind. I was really trying to stop myself from being that mean girl bitch that I detested so much. I knew many girls hated me because of my attitude and I was really trying to stop from acting like the Queen of the world because I knew I wasn’t.

“Not much. Anything going on tonight?” I needed to get out there and flirt with someone else or I’d be late-night drunk-dialing Sam.

“I’m not sure. Maybe a frat party. Why? You interested in going?”

“Since when have I not been interested in going?” I said, giggling.

“Well, since you—”

“Not now, Ann,” I said, stopping her.

“I mean, I can call Matt and see if something’s going on tonight.” She was starting to sound eager. “You really want to go do something?”

“Yeah, of course. I haven’t seen you in forever. We should totally go and hang out with some frat guys and just flirt our asses off.”

“Sounds good to me. Thanks for calling me, Shelby.”

“No worries. Just text me the details for tonight. I’m going to my mom’s for early dinner, but I should be done by about six or seven.”

“Perfect,” she said. “Can’t wait to see you.”

“You, too,” I said and hung up with a smile. Matt was one of the frat guys that everybody loved. He was pretty good-looking, even though he wasn’t exactly my type. He was handsome but in a totally young-college-jock sort of way. I was way over college guys. Now that I’d had a real man, I didn’t think there was any going back. However, if he wanted to flirt, I wouldn’t say no. I’d even be down for some making out.

Shit, anything to get my mind off of Sam. I sighed, thinking about him. Why hadn’t he called me? I chewed on my lower lip. I was starting to feel antsy, and I didn’t like the feeling. I checked my phone again. Still no text messages. I was about to call another friend to see what they were doing when my phone rang. Sam. Finally. I let it ring a few times before I picked up.

“Hey, this is Shelby. What’s up?”

“Shelby, I missed you this morning,” he said in his deep voice, and my stomach jumped in excitement.

“Oh, yeah? I guess you slept late, huh?”

“Well, after last night, how could I not?” he chuckled. “Though you up and left pretty early, I’m assuming.”

“Yeah. I had things to do today, and, well, you know, I didn’t want you to wake up and think that you could have me again.”

“Oh, really?” he said. “So, is that your way of telling me that you don’t want to fuck again?”

“Really, Sam? Is that what you’re calling it?”

“Would you rather me say ‘make love’?”

“Ha, ha. Very funny,” I said, though my entire face was burning hot. “So what are you up to today?” I said, cursing inside. I didn’t want him to think that I cared what he was doing.

“Oh, not much. A little bit of this. A little bit of that.”

“Cool. Cool,” I said. “Good for you.”

“So, we still need to figure out the plans for your parents’ party.”

“I mean, everything’s pretty much figured out, isn’t it?”

“I was hoping we could have a conversation tomorrow,” he said smoothly. I grinned to myself.

“Okay. And you want to meet at a restaurant or…”

“I was thinking you could come over to my place.”

“Uh-huh. You want me to come over to your place so we can talk?

“Well, we can talk and… do other stuff. Right?”

“Um, do you think sex with me is free?”

“What does that mean, Shelby?”

“I mean, I want a date. I want dinner. I want to be taken places.”

“You know I can’t just take you places, Shelby. We can’t have your parents finding out, or your parents’ friends.”

“Well, we have an excuse for why we’re together,” I said.

“Yeah, we’ll have an excuse for why we’re together, but we won’t have an excuse for why my fingers are slipped inside your panties and I’m making you come on the restaurant floor.”

“Ha, ha,” I laughed, but my entire body was burning up with fever. “I wish you would.”

“You wish I would what?”

“I wish you would fuck me on a restaurant floor. There’s no way you’d do something like that.”

“I think there’s no way you’d do it,” he chuckled.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well, you were a little bit upset when I fucked you outside the restaurant last night.”

“No, I wasn’t,” I said. “I let you fuck me there. Didn’t I?”

“Yeah, well,” he sighed. “That was not a good idea. Anyone could have seen us.”

“So? Wasn’t that part of the excitement for you?”

“Shelby,” he said, “I know this is fun, and I know we have this wicked chemistry, but I just don’t know that this is a good idea.”

I pouted at the phone. “So then, you don’t want me to come over tomorrow for a fuck?”

“Well, I didn’t say that,” he said.

“So you do want me to come over tomorrow?”

“I just don’t think we should be going places in public.”

“So you want me to be your dirty piece on the side?”

“That’s not what I’m saying, Shelby.” He let out a deep sigh. “Fuck, I just don’t know. This situation is too complicated.”

“It’s fine, Sam. Don’t worry. I know what this is, and you know what this is. I can tease you, can’t I?”

“Yeah, but I don’t want you to feel like you’re my dirty side piece. It’s more than that, but…”

“I know. It can’t be more than that because you’re my dad’s best friend.”

“You got it. He means the world to me. He’s like a brother.”

“But you’re still fucking me.”

“That’s because how can I say no to a hot thing like you?” he said.

“You can’t,” I said. “So, tomorrow?”

“Yeah. I’ll make you dinner or something.”

“Okay. That sounds like a plan.”

So,” he cleared his throat, “what are you up to tonight?”

“I don’t think you want to know, my dear.”

“Why? Are you going to let another man—”

“Sam,” I cut him off.

“Yes?”

“Don’t ask me questions you don’t want to know the answer to.”

“So you’re going to go out with another man tonight?”

“I didn’t say that, but I am going to a party, and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
