Runaway (Empire High #5)(68)
Author: Ivy Smoak

“I loved chasing you down the beach, Brooklyn.” His hand slid to my ass.

I moaned, the change of angle hitting me in all the right places.

“I would have chased you forever.”

“No need for chasing,” I said. “My heart was already yours. You knew it all along.” As much as I tried to fight it…I couldn’t. I’d loved Miller at that beach house. I’d always loved him.

His thumb brushed against my clit. “You really lost this challenge, because I’m going to make you come again before…”

“Hey! I don’t think so.” I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer.

He groaned.

I lifted my hips, matching each thrust. “Please, Miller.” God. “I need you. I need this.”

He groaned again, his cock pulsing inside of me.

My fingers dug into his back as I clenched around him. I held his body to mine as I came, my toes curling into the sand.

We were both panting, our chests pressed together.

I grabbed his face so I could stare at him in the moonlight. All the good and bad had led me here. To this moment. And as hard as the bad times had been, I’d never change this moment for anything. I looked up at the stars. “We were written in the stars,” I whispered. “You and me.”

“The three of us,” he said, rolling us over so we could both look up at the starry sky.

I rested my head against his chest. The three of us. I smiled listening to his steady heartbeat. I was okay with being three.

Chapter 53

6 Months Later - Saturday

I leaned against the doorjamb and watched Miller read Jacob a bedtime story, the smile on my face growing by the second.

“And the cow goes…”

“Moo!” Jacob said.

Miller smiled and turned the page of Jacob’s favorite book. “And the pig goes…

“Oink!”

“And the monster goes…”

“The monster?” Jacob sat up in bed and grabbed the top of the book to tilt it down. “Daddy that’s not a monster. That’s a duck.”

“But what noise does a monster make?”

“A scary one?”

“It goes…rawr!” Miller tickled Jacob’s side.

Jacob started laughing, flailing around in the sheets.

“Hey, you two,” I said. “You’re supposed to be getting ready for bed.”

Miller patted the bed next to me. “We were waiting for you.”

“Mhm.” I shook my head, but I was smiling. I ran over to the bed and jumped on it.

Miller laughed as I ducked under his arm. He pulled me in close, placing a kiss on my cheek. This was my favorite place to be.

I leaned over and tickled Jacob too, sending him into another fit of laughter, before leaning back against Miller’s shoulder. “Now, where were we?”

“That part about monsters,” Miller said.

“Of course. And what noise does a monster make?” I asked.

Jacob smiled. And then he “rawred” at the top of his lungs.

I rawred back.

And so did Miller.

And somehow we all started jumping on the bed rawring.

I tumbled down, grabbing Jacob with me. “Little monster, it’s time for bed.”

“But, Mommy…”

“Even monsters need sleep.”

He yawned. “Even monsters?”

“Yes, sweet boy.”

“I want to grow up and be a monster,” Jacob said. “Can I go to school for that?”

The thought of Jacob going to school made my heart race. I glanced at Miller and then back down at Jacob. “Hmm.” I kissed his forehead. “We’ll have to see. For now, let’s finish your book.”

Miller sat down on the opposite side of Jacob. He tucked Jacob in like a sausage so he couldn’t move and then cleared his throat. “And the duck goes…”

“Quack,” Jacob said.

“And the lion goes…”

“Roar,” Jacob said with a yawn.

“And the turkey goes…”

“Gobble gobble…” Jacob started snoring.

I smiled down at him and then looked back up at Miller. I knew he could see the worry in my eyes.

He leaned down and kissed Jacob’s forehead before climbing off the bed slowly, doing his best not to wake Jacob. I followed his lead, tiptoeing out into the hall.

I took one more look at our adorable little guy before softly closing the door. I sighed and turned around, pressing my hands to Miller’s chest. “School? We can’t send him to school.” I’d been teaching him by myself. He could already say his alphabet and he could count pretty high.

“Hey.” Miller reached down and smoothed my furrowed brow with his thumb. “He’s only three. We have two more years to worry about that.”

“But…”

“Right now, let’s just enjoy ourselves. In our little bubble.” He pulled me in close.

“He should be socializing though, right? What if I keep him here too long and he doesn’t know how to make friends?”

“Kids know how to make friends. It’s fine.”

“What if we do send him and he starts stripping in class?”

Miller laughed. “Well that would just be hilarious…”

“Miller!” I pressed my lips together. “I’m a terrible mother, aren’t I?”

“What? No.” He cupped the side of my face in his hand. “Not in a million years.”

“He’s scared of everyone he comes across and he doesn’t like clothes.”

“I don’t like clothes either. And honestly, you’re wearing a little too many for my taste.”

“Miller I’m being serious…”

“Me too.” He leaned down and hoisted me over his shoulder.

I laughed as he carried me to our bedroom. “You’re impossible, you know.”

“You’re worrying about nothing. Jacob’s an adorable kid. When we think it’s safe to send him to school he’ll make tons of friends. With or without clothes.” He lightly slapped my butt.

“He has to wear clothes if he goes to school.”

“Then he’ll probably choose not to go. Win win.”

I laughed as Miller threw me down on our bed. But my laughter died in my throat as Miller peeled off his shirt.

“Okay, fine, maybe clothes are a little overrated.”

“Rawr.”

I laughed as he stalked toward me. “What are you doing?”

He rawred again.

I squealed as he reached for my ankle. I pushed myself up on my knees and crawled along the bed as he rawred again.

I tossed a pillow at him and jumped off the bed as he lunged for me.

He chased me around the room, prowling after me. God, how was he so sexy even when he was being ridiculously silly?

I was completely out of breath as he caged me in against the door. “You caught me,” I said, panting. “What are you going to do to me now?”

“I’m going to eat you.”

It was such a classic monster response. I would have tried to run again, but he dropped to his knees, pushing my shorts and panties down.
