To My Dad's Hot Best Friend (The Inappropriate Bachelors #8)(7)
Author: J. S. Cooper

“We only dated for a few months.” He shrugged. “It wasn’t really going anywhere. We weren’t looking for the same things.”

“Oh?” I asked him, now wanting to know more. “What were you looking for and what was she looking for?” I paused as the barista walked over with our coffees and bagels.

“Here you go,” she said. “Enjoy.”

“Thank you.” I smiled at her, and Sam smiled and thanked her as well.

“Oh, this is delicious,” he said as he took a bite. And I frowned. Oh no, was he not going to answer my question?

“So about Pam…” I said again after a few seconds. He looked at me in surprise.

“What about her?”

“I, uh, was just curious what you were looking for and what she was looking for and why it didn’t match up.” I stumbled over my words.

“Well, she was kind of ready to settle down, and I wasn’t.” He shrugged. That didn’t really tell me much, but I didn’t want to push it.

“Oh, I see.”

“And what about yourself?” He looked at me curiously.

“What about me?” I said.

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

“No, no boyfriend.” I shook my head. “I am single. But…” I licked my lips slowly and leaned forward.

“Yeah?” he said as he took a sip of his coffee.

“I’m looking.”

“Oh, okay.” He nodded. “And what are you looking for?”

“I’m looking for the love of my life,” I said, sitting back now, staring at him to see what he would say.

“Okay. Aren’t you a bit young for that?”

“Not really.” I shook my head. “But more importantly…” I said, knowing I was going to go in for the kill and knowing I might shock him.

“More importantly than that?” He raised an eyebrow and took another sip of his coffee.

“I’m looking for good hot sex,” I said slowly and deliberately, and I watched as he sputtered up coffee and spatted all over the table.

“Oh my God. Sorry,” he said, picking up a napkin and wiping it up.

“No worries.” I smiled. “Did I shock you?”

He looked at me with a small smile and nodded. “I guess I didn’t expect to hear those words coming out of your mouth.”

“What, that I’m looking for hot sex?”

“Yeah. I’m not sure how your parents would feel knowing that.”

“They have to know that I want to be sexually fulfilled,” I said. His eyes widened, and I noticed him looking me over properly, as if he’d never really seen me before. I smiled to myself.

“So I guess that means you’re on dating apps?” he said slowly.

“No, not really. I go out and I meet who I meet.” I shrugged. “I mean, I’ve been on dating apps, but I’m just not finding the right man for me, you know? I want someone mature, someone with experience, someone who knows how to work with what he’s got.”

“Someone who knows how to work with what he’s got?” His eyes narrowed. “You sound like you’re looking for something very specific.”

“You could say that. Nothing under six.” I winked at him.

“Nothing under six?” He frowned. “Like six out of ten?” he said.

“Not exactly what I was talking about.” I took a bite of my bagel.

“I’m so confused,” he said. “Is that some millennial terminology that I’ve never heard of before?”

“I don’t know,” I giggled. I leaned forward and motioned for him to lean forward as well. “So, I’ll tell you what I’m talking about if you promise not to tell anyone.”

He looked into my eyes and gave me a cocky grin. “I don’t know if I should do this, but I promise.”

“Well,” I said in my most throaty, seductive voice, “I mean I’m not looking for a man with anything under six inches.”

“Six inches?” he repeated my words, and then his eyes widened. I smiled at him.

“Yeah. I prefer a good seven or eight. You know what I mean?” I winked and sat back, studying his shocked face. I knew I was being a bit forward, but I had to put my cards on the table if I was going to make this happen. There couldn’t be anything subtle about what I was going to do. I wasn’t trying to play a long game. I didn’t want to hook up with him in ten years. I wanted to be with him now.

As I stared at him in his tight white T-shirt, all I could think about were the muscles in his chest that lay beneath. I wanted to run my hands down the front of his body and squeeze his biceps. I wanted to pull his face to mine and kiss him. I wanted to run my hands through his dark wavy hair and stare into his deep, beautiful, blue eyes. I wanted him to kiss me back passionately as he tugged on my hair and sucked on my neck. I wanted to feel his rough, manly hands between my legs, rubbing me, touching me, taking me.

I wanted Sam more than I’d ever wanted anything in my life, and I was going to do my damn best to get him.

“So, Shelby,” he said as he sat back and shifted in his seat. I wondered if he was hard. I wished I could put my feet up on his lap and see, but I wasn’t quite that bold.

“Yes, Sam?” I smiled sweetly.

“So, exactly when did you want to come over to my place to check it out for the party?” He was gazing into my eyes now. There was an expression there I hadn’t seen before, and I could feel my body heating up.

“I don’t know. Are you free tonight?” I asked

“Tonight?” I didn’t miss the way his gaze dropped to my lips.

“Yeah, tonight. No time like the present, right?”

“I guess so.” He nodded. “Sure, you could come over tonight.”

“Sounds good,” I said with a smile. “I might have a party to go to afterwards, but I’ll come beforehand?”

“Sure,” he said. “That works.”

I was lying, of course. I wasn’t going to go to a party, but I wanted to have an excuse ready for why I was dressed the sexiest I’d ever been in my life. I was going to tell him I was going to some sort of sex party. It wasn’t true, but it would give me a reason for showing up in a sexy negligee. I needed to tempt and tease him. I needed to make Sam want me so badly that everything would happen easily.

I knew that I was playing with fire, but I didn’t care. He was a man, after all. And just because he was my dad’s best friend didn’t mean that he’d be able to turn down the chance to be with me.

I could tell from the way that he was looking at me and staring at my lips that I had his full attention now. I could tell that he was aroused from the way his pupils were dilated. I could tell that I had more than a solid chance of getting with him.

That’s all I wanted.

I wanted Sam so badly. I could already picture myself grinding against him, kissing him, taking him, making him mine, and I knew it was going to be the absolute best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Chapter Six

“Shelby, there you are,” Sam said as he opened the door to his penthouse. “Would you like to come inside?”
