To My Dad's Hot Best Friend (The Inappropriate Bachelors #8)(8)
Author: J. S. Cooper

“Of course. Thank you,” I said, as I shimmied inside. My long hair hung down my back, and I knew that I looked like a million dollars. I’d decided against wearing the wigs. I wanted to be me, in all my glory. I was wearing a trench coat and underneath the trench coat, I was wearing a sexy negligee. I couldn’t wait to see Sam’s eyes when he realized I had on next to nothing.

“So, is it rainy outside?” he asked, surprised as I wore the trench coat.

“No,” I laughed. “I told you I’m going to a party after this.”

“Yeah? And it’s a trench coat party?” he said, joking.

I laughed. “No, it’s a sexy nightgown party,” I said with a small smile. “I knew I couldn’t walk streets in my outfit, so I’ve got a trench coat on.”

“Wow,” he said, “you college girls really do have fun, huh?”

“Yeah, I guess so. It wasn’t our idea. It was the boys at the Sigma fraternity who came up with the idea,” I lied. “I’m sure they just wanted to see us all in our sexiest outfits”

“I bet they do. Oh, what it would be like to be a frat guy in college,” he said. “So this is my place.” He held his hands out. “Do you think the space will be big enough?”

“Oh yeah,” I said as I looked around. It was gorgeous. He had a large tan leather couch in the living room that was directly opposite what had to have been at least a 54-inch TV. There was a beautiful red and green Persian rug on the floor. And on top of that was a cool reclaimed wood coffee table. To the left was an open-plan kitchen with Carrera marble countertops and light pine cabinets. “It’s beautiful, Sam.”

“Thanks,” he said. “I do like living here.”

“I bet. I would never want to leave if I lived here.”

“Really?” he smiled. “I’m surprised to hear you say that.”

“Oh, why is that?”

“I feel like most women don’t like to live in penthouses.”

I was shocked. “What women are you talking about?”

“Mainly my ex, Pam. She wanted me to sell this place and get a house in the suburbs. Five bedrooms, three baths with a big backyard. I guess she wanted to make sure that I would mow the lawn every weekend instead of playing golf or something. But the joke was on her because I don’t play golf anyway.”

“I guess she was really ready for that life, huh?”

“I guess,” he shrugged. “I mean, that’s what your parents have, so I’m not dissing it. But that’s just not who I am.”

“Yeah. I totally understand that. That’s not who I am as well.”

“You say that now,” he said with a chuckle, “but give it ten years. You might be feeling differently.”

“Ten years?” I shook my head. “How old do you think I am?”

“I don’t know. How old are you, Shelby?” He walked toward the kitchen and opened the fridge. “And would you like something to drink?”

“A beer if you have one, please?”

“Sure,” he said. “Bud Light do?”

“Perfect.” I took the beer he held out to me. “And I’m twenty-two.”

“Okay,” he nodded. “So you’re an adult.”

“I’m very much an adult.” I grinned at him. “Trust me.”

“Yes, you are,” he said. “So. Was there anything you wanted to ask me specifically about the place?” He turned around as I opened my beer.

I repressed a sigh. I didn’t want to talk about the party. I wanted to talk about us. I wanted him to ask me to take off my trench coat. I wanted him to pull me in for a kiss and tell me that he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about me and that he wanted to devour me. But of course, no. He was talking about the party.

“I was just wondering if we were to have a DJ where they would be able to set up.”

“Um, I don’t really know if a DJ’s going to work,” he laughed. “My place is big, but it’s not that big.”

“True, because if we have a bartender—”

“A bartender?” he said, raising an eyebrow. “We can’t just make the drinks ourselves?”

“We want it to be a classy event, right?”

“I guess so.”

“What about if we had a bartender/DJ?” I suggested.

“Um, I guess that could work,” he shrugged. “I mean, I don’t really know much about throwing parties like this. If you know someone who could be a bartender/DJ.”

“I could find out,” I said, “I know a lot of frat guys who would love the opportunity to do something like that, and they wouldn’t charge much.”

“Okay. Sounds good.” He nodded. “So would you like to have a seat or look around the rest of the apartment?”

“Um, let’s have a seat.” We walked to the large leather couch and sat down. “Oh, wow,” I said as I sat back. “This is so comfortable.”

“Thanks,” he grinned. “I spent a lot of money on this couch, but it was worth every penny.”

“Oh, I bet,” I murmured. It was large enough to make love on. I could imagine pushing him back, pulling his pants off, and riding him on this very couch. But I didn’t want him to know that just yet. “Oh, man,” I said as I took a sip of my beer and undid the top button of my trench coat.

“Oh, is everything okay, Shelby?”

“Yeah. I’m just feeling a little warm and thinking that I want to take off my trench coat, but I don’t want to be scandalous.”

“Scandalous?” he asked.

“Well, you know, because I’ve got on a sexy negligee underneath. You wouldn’t be upset with me if I took it off, right?”

“No,” he said softly as he looked over at me and took a sip of his beer. “If you want to take it off, go ahead.”

“I mean, I feel kind of bad. I don’t want you to think I’m some sort of slut or something.”

“I would never think that,” he assured me.

“Well, okay, then.” I stood up, placed my beer can on the coffee table, and started to undo my trench coat. I undid one button at a time, slowly, until finally it dropped on the ground. My negligee was completely sexy. The breast area was see-through, and I knew he could see my nipples. I was wearing thong panties and garters, and I knew I looked hot as hell.

I giggled softly as I picked up my beer can and sat back down on the couch—but this time I sat closer to him. I could feel his eyes on my body and watched as he took a couple quick chugs of his beer.

“So what were we talking about?” I said, pretending that I wasn’t practically naked sitting next to him.

“Um.” He swallowed hard as he looked back down at me. I saw his gaze drop to my breasts and then he looked up quickly again. “Sorry. I um…” He jumped up quickly. “Let me grab my phone. I’m expecting a call,” he said as he hurried out of the room.

“Sure,” I said, sitting back.

I knew I was coming on strong, but I wanted to see his reaction. So far, I was very happy with it. I took a couple more sips of my beer and waited for him to come back out of his bedroom.
